A Sisters Gift
|
Question:
My father has been dead for some time and we have a house in his name. We decided to sell the house and divide up the legacy, but one of my sisters wants to relinquish her right to me in order to help me marry - bearing in mind that she is (already) married and that she and her husband live comfortably. Is this permissible? Benefit me (with advice) and may Allaah benefit you.

Answer:
There is no sin if you accept this gift from your sister - which is her share of the house - in order to help you to marry, if she is of age. This is because the evidences from the Book (of Allaah) and the Sunnah prove that it is permissible for a woman to give a portion of her property to her near relatives and to others. Likewise, it is permissible for her to give charity, if she is of age. And Allaah is the granter of success.
