The Ruling on Dyeing the Beard Black
|
Question:
What is the ruling on dyeing the beard black, and what is the ruling on the one who does so?
|
Answer:
It is not permissible to dye white hair black, whether it is on the head or on the beard, because it has been confirmed by authentic Hadiths from the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) that he forbade it. But it is lawful to change it to a colour other than black, such as red or blonde, with henna and Katam mixed together, based upon the saying of the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam): Change this white hair, but avoid black. [1] And his saying (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam): Verily, the Jews and Christians do not dye their hair, so be different from them. [2] And Allaah is the Granter of success.
