Ruling Upon The Witr Prayer

Question:
Esteemed Shaykh, what is the virtue of the Witr prayer and is it considered a sunnah (or an obligation)? I request clarification regarding it.

Answer:
It is from the greatest of the Rawaatib in reward, and it is from the night prayer. And its ruling is that it is Sunnah upon the correct opinion and it is not an obligation as the five (daily) prayers. And Allaah Knows Best.
