A Resident Combining Two Prayers due to Study

Question:
Is it permissible for us to combine two prayers while residing in Al-Madinah when we have classes that it is not possible for us to leave, on the basis of the fact that the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) combined two prayers without cause of travel, rain or illness, or must we leave the lesson and go out to the prayer?

Answer:
You must perform the five compulsory prayers at their stated times, and classes are not considered an excuse for you to delay any of the prayers from the times stated by the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam). As for the Hadith which you have indicated, the regular and well reported practice of the Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) contradicts it, therefore you must arrange your classes so that you can perform the prayers at their stated times.
